Songkran is coming — and Pattaya does it like nowhere else. While the rest of Thailand celebrates the traditional Thai New Year from April 13–15, Pattaya takes things to another level with the legendary Wan Lai festival stretching celebrations well into late April.
Whether you're a first-time visitor or a seasoned Songkran veteran, here's everything you need to know for 2026.
🗓️ Songkran 2026 Key Dates for Pattaya & Chon Buri
Pattaya's Songkran season stretches far beyond the national holidays. Here's the official 2026 schedule:
- April 5 — Wan Lai kicks off in Bo Win
- April 13–15 — National Songkran holidays (water splashing across all of Thailand)
- April 18 — Wan Lai in Naklua + Koh Larn
- April 19 — THE BIG DAY — Wan Lai Pattaya & Jomtien (the main event, the whole city goes off)
- April 20 — Extended celebrations continue
Mark April 19 in your calendar. That's when Beach Road, Second Road, and Jomtien turn into one massive water battle zone. Expect pickup trucks loaded with water barrels, Super Soakers on every corner, and thousands of people having the time of their lives.
💦 Where the Action Is
Beach Road & Walking Street
The epicentre of Pattaya's Songkran chaos. Beach Road becomes a river of people, water, and music. Walking Street transforms from nightlife hub to daytime water war zone. It's intense, it's loud, and it's absolutely unforgettable.
Jomtien Beach
A slightly more laid-back vibe compared to central Pattaya, but don't be fooled — Jomtien still brings the energy. Families, groups of friends, and plenty of water trucks make the Jomtien stretch one of the best spots to enjoy Songkran.
Naklua (April 18)
Naklua's Wan Lai celebration is more traditional and cultural. Expect temple ceremonies, traditional blessing rituals, Thai dance performances, and of course — water. It's a great way to experience the authentic side of Songkran before the big Pattaya day on the 19th.
Soi Buakhao
The expat favourite. Soi Buakhao turns into a huge street party with DJs, music stages, foam machines, and non-stop water action. One of the most popular gathering spots for the international crowd.
🧊 Survival Tips
- Waterproof your phone — A waterproof pouch is essential. You WILL get soaked from every direction
- Protect your valuables — Dry bags for wallets, cash, and electronics. Leave anything you don't want wet at home
- Wear quick-dry clothes — Swimwear, board shorts, light shirts. You'll be drenched within minutes
- Sunscreen is a must — The April sun is intense. Reapply often, even if you're wet
- Stay hydrated — It's easy to forget when you're covered in water, but you're still sweating in 35°C heat
- Respect the culture — Don't splash monks, elderly people, or anyone carrying food. Keep things fun and friendly
- Baby powder = tradition — The white paste you'll see on people's faces is part of the traditional blessing. Embrace it!
